First we had Panda, and recently Google implemented its little brother: The Penguin. The Google Penguin update shook up the SEO world, and whether you are someone who targets micro niches or goes after the heavyweights, we all felt its effects. This update was Google’s way to reward legitimate or white hat SEO practices, so webmasters who followed healthy SEO practices benefited. Whereas Panda focused more on content quality and keyword density, Penguin focused on backlinks and their overall quality.

Smacked By The Google Penguin Update

A couple of days ago I noticed that the traffic to my blog had dropped significantly. I was not aware of any penalty’s for my site so I was a bit puzzled. I checked Webmaster tools to confirm that my site was not flagged by Google for anything and I also checked analytics to see if the stats lined up with the WordPress plugins I use to track my site’s visitors. The last thing I did was check Google for a few keywords that my site has always ranked well for and I was surprised to see that my site was no longer ranking at all. Read more
